Apparently so according to a recent published study at the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences. The study lasted over 7 years and divided over 100,000 participants into two groups. Both groups had no history of heart attack, stroke, or cancer. One group drank tea at least three times per week and other group less than that.
Not only did the group drinking tea three times a week and over have an association with longer life expectancy but healthier years of life within that time frame. To be more specific, this group had a 39% lower risk of heart disease and stroke, 56% lower risk of fatal heart disease and stroke, and 29% decreased risk of all-cause death compared to consistent never or non-habitual tea drinkers.
According to author Dr. Xinyan Wang: “The favourable health effects are the most robust for green tea and for long-term habitual tea drinkers.”
